According to new data, Facebook is starting to drive more traffic to digital media websites than Google is. This news comes after Facebook announced they want to get more content on their platform with Instant Articles and a revamped Notes feature.
The Demographics of Social Media Users
Pew Research Center looked at demographics of the top 5 social media platforms. They found that 72% of adult Internet users (62% of entire adult population) use Facebook. Facebook is especially popular among women and users who are 18-25 years of age.
Pinterest is mainly used by women (44%) compared to 16% of men as well as those less than 50 years old.
Instagram is popular with non-whites and young adults. 47% of African Americans and 38% of Hispanics use the platform.
Alternatively, LinkedIn was the only platform that had higher usage rates among 30-49 year olds than 18 to 29 year olds.
Finally, Twitter users are seen to be living in urban areas and are more popular among young adults.

Additionally, 15% of online adults read or comment on discussion forums like Reddit or Digg while one in 10 young adults use Tumblr (20% of users 18-29).
Finally, Facebook remains the most popular social media site among Internet users However, Pinterest and Instagram are on the rise, doubling in usage since 2012.
